Our creative divisions

QUIKSTAGE features collections of new, original works, and is intended for aspiring thespians (usually with little or no experience) to discover the ins and outs of a theatre production simply by getting involved. It is also a hub for budding playwrights and directors to ultimately create something on an empty space. QUIKSTAGE strives to unearth undiscovered talents in the community, at the same time working as their stepping stone into future theatre endeavours.

BIGGSTAGE is the creative outlet for more experienced playwrights, directors, designers and actors to be part of theatre productions at a more professional and advanced level, resulting in more sophisticated theatrical works. This division also features works by established playwrights, both local as well as abroad. BIGGSTAGE hopes to provide a constant flow of quality productions for the community.

GAMESTAGE makes up the improvisational comedy ensemble of The Oral Stage, where they explore diverse techniques for effective, spontaneous performance. At the end of every season, the ensemble presents scenes and sketches in a casual, audience-interactive environment – all for a rib-tickling good time.

STAGEVIBES is The Oral Stage’s music department which aspires to amplify the knowledge and appreciation of classical music within the community. Here, young classical voices and musicians band together for practice, pedagogy and performance – the department also compliments other creative divisions by the provision of live music for theatre productions.

STAGEWORKS is The Oral Stage’s educational outlet for theatre novices to hone and/or sharpen their skills on the different aspects of theatre. Workshops here are conducted by seasoned practitioners from the Malaysian theatre industry, as well as abroad – the company believes that while one may learn from books, there is a priceless value in bestowing one’s theatre knowledge and experience to another.

SSI, short for Stage Scene Investigation, is the platform for discussion of popular plays, similar to a book club. Texts covered encompass various genres and playwrights across different times and locations – SSI seeks to revive the fun in dramatic works, nurturing the interest in play-reading within the community.

The STAGEVAULT is the growing resource centre of The Oral Stage, where publications pertaining to theatre (books, magazines, journals, etc.) are available for public reference and academic purposes. Also housing collections of theatre audios and videos, the STAGEVAULT devotes itself to theatre research and dissertations as well, contributing to the improvement of theatre for the community.
